About Me

My name is Joshua Bleier, and I'm an Instructional Designer and Web Page Developer. Currently, I'm developing instruction for teachers, public school administrators and staff at the San Diego Unified School District.

Recently, I've designed instructional web pages for two undergraduate courses in the Mechanical Engineering Department at San Diego State University, where I received a Masters in Educational Technology.

Philosophy

Much of my philosophy about education has been shaped by several trips I've made to Cuba over the past 8 years. My focus while there was learning Afro-Cuban music & rhythms; however, I came away with more general lessons about life, education and work.

Circumstances have put Cuban maestros in the same position that many of our public school educators find themselves in; attempting to teach complex lessons, covering numerous subject areas, with extremely limited resources.

These Cubans, masters of their craft as well as their job as educators, seem to always bear in mind these crucial guidelines:

• Make every effort to acquire necessary resources for your students, but
• learn to improvise with the resources that you do have,
• and always, always, go about you tasks with
  • a fundamental respect for your students, and
  • a profound passion for what you do.

I try to stay mindful of these guidelines in the work that I do, and I make every effort to bring this philosophy of flexibility, respect and passion to bear on all of my endeavors.
